The organisation is to roll out EMIS’s community clinical system to all of its services, beginning with:
- bladder and bowel management;
- contraception and reproductive health;
- multidisciplinary teams supporting patients with long-term conditions in the community;
- a specialist diabetes service, including in-patient services at Orpington Community Hospital.
The system will provide a common patient record, shared with GPs, and central functions such as centralised appointment booking.
Chief Executive of Bromley Healthcare, Jonathan Lewis, said: “This is far more than a decision to replace an IT system. It is a move to use technology as an agent and accelerator of change.
“It will dramatically improve the quality of the care we provide as well as making us hugely more efficient. We have made great strides in improving productivity, which is up by 20 per cent, and in improving clinical outcomes. For example, leg ulcer healing rates are down from 21 weeks to five.
“But EMIS Web will take us on to another level. Not only will it make individual services better, but a common patient record (shared with GPs) and central functions (for example, centralised booking) will change the overall way that the company works.”
The contract win is the latest in a series of gains for EMIS as it develops its systems for use across the NHS, following the creation of a Community Children’s and Mental Health (CCMH) division. This is led by Martin Bell, former director of Information Management and Technology at North Bristol NHS Trust.
Martin said: “We are delighted to be working with Bromley Healthcare to provide the cutting-edge technology that will help staff to provide safer, more streamlined care to patients across a range of key services.
“This is further proof of EMIS Web’s growing momentum in offering much more than a system for GPs. Within community, child and mental health, in addition to Bromley we have recently secured new contracts in Glasgow and the East London Urgent Care Centre.”
In 2013, EMIS was included in the framework agreement to provide clinical IT services to 30 community and mental health trusts across London and the South.
