Proposed acquisition of EMIS Group

EMIS EPR Viewer allows hospice staff to see key patient information

10 Feb 2014

Using EMIS Web Electronic Patient Viewer, Douglas Macmillan Hospice can now view key information for patients under their care in Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire.

With sharing agreements in place with local surgeries, clinicians at Douglas Macmillan are already seeing the advantages of access to real time patient data, including current medication, problems, allergies and palliative care information.

EMIS donated the service free of charge for 12 months in memory of Kenneth Lyth, a friend of EMIS regional director Paula Turnock, who passed away last year.

Having spent time at the hospice, Kenny often talked about how much support he received from Douglas Macmillan team but towards the end of his life, he worried that he couldn't remember his latest test results or medication given to him by his GP.

Giving hospices access to GP records takes the pressure off patients and the palliative care teams by providing a view of the data held in the primary care records.

Patients and GPs have absolute control. Information is only shared with the permission of the GP and the consent of the patient.
