Future integration of EMIS and Rx Systems technologies will enable further streamlining of electronic prescription services, benefitting the 2,500 community pharmacies using Rx Systems' ProScript dispensary management system, their patients and GPs.
Plans include linking Rx customers to GP practices using EMIS Access, the award winning secure online patient portal. This already allows patients to request repeat medication via internet, mobile phone or digital TV, saving time and simplifying the prescription process considerably.
There will be further advantages from interoperability between EMIS Web, EMIS' next generation system, and ProScript. EMIS Web is currently being tested for EPS2 paired with ProScript.
Ian Taylor, Managing Director, Rx Systems, said: "We are confident that this development will be of real benefit to Rx Systems' customers. The opportunity to link community pharmacies more closely to GP surgeries is an exciting one - offering the potential to join up healthcare systems to provide more efficient services and better patient care.
"At the same time, of course, we remain fully committed to providing leading edge pharmacy software and services to support our customers."
Sean Riddell, EMIS CEO, said: "Rx Systems' software has a strong reputation and a loyal community pharmacy customer base. Joining forces enables both EMIS and Rx Systems to identify the best way to provide pharmacists and GPs with appropriate levels of interoperability to further improve patient care and efficiencies in the prescribing environment. This means real benefits for patients, pharmacists and GPs alike."
EMIS is headquartered in Leeds and three EMIS Group plc board members: Sean Riddell (EMIS Chief Executive Officer), Phillip Woodrow (EMIS Finance Director) and Chris Spencer (EMIS Company Secretary/Group Counsel) will join the Rx Systems board.
