EMIS rolls out Community Information Dataset in EMIS Web

28 Mar 2012

EMIS – the UK’s leading provider of healthcare software and related services to GPs – has released new software that will capture vital NHS data to help improve community healthcare.

Community healthcare professionals are starting to use the new functionality in the EMIS Web healthcare system, enabling them to collect information required by the NHS Information Centre’s Community Information Data Set (CIDS), which comes into force on 1 April 2012.

CIDS is implemented as part of the new episode management functionality which captures information on episodic patient care and outcomes from community allied health professionals (AHPs) including district nurses, health visitors and physiotherapists. The NHS will utilise the ‘secondary uses’ data to enable more effective healthcare commissioning, and to address health inequalities.

Shaun O’Hanlon, Clinical Development Director at EMIS said: “Having worked with the NHS IC on this important dataset, we are delighted to be in the vanguard of implementing it.

“For the first time in the history of the NHS, clinicians will have a rich source of information on community healthcare, systematically gathered, that will enable them to better commission services and improve care pathways for patients. We have implemented this in EMIS Web as part of the established workflow, minimising the training requirement and making CIDS data capture seamless for the front line clinician.”
