Proposed acquisition of EMIS Group

EMIS Web is first GP system to achieve full roll out approval for EPSR2

15 Mar 2011

EMIS has been awarded full roll out approval for the Electronic Prescription Service Release 2 (EPSR2) module of its EMIS Web system.

The accreditation from NHS Connecting For Health means that EMIS Web is the first GP system to achieve EPS Release 2 compliance. It follows the granting of full roll out approval for the core GP functionality of EMIS Web in September 2010.

EPS Release 2 will make the process of prescribing and dispensing of medication safer and more convenient for patients and NHS staff by making it a fully electronic process. It will enable prescribers, such as GPs, to send a prescription electronically to a dispenser (pharmacy) of the patient’s choice.

Sean Riddell, Chief Executive of EMIS Group, said: “I am delighted to announce that EMIS has become the first GP system supplier to gain full roll-out approval for EPS Release 2.

“Electronic prescribing will bring many benefits, including improved clinical safety and improved efficiency, especially when used in conjunction with our EMIS Access service, which allows patients to request their medication using the internet.

“We are pleased to be able to add this functionality to our EMIS Web system, which represents a major step forward for healthcare technology.”

EMIS also announced that it has been granted full roll out approval for GP2GP1.1a for its EMIS LV system.
