The decision means that the award-winning system will be available to GPs in Wales for the first time – a significant milestone in the roll-out of the software, which is fast gathering momentum in England.
The overhaul of GP systems in Wales – with just two authorised systems offered – is designed to improve and ‘futureproof’ GP computing.
Key requirements for the GP IT Clinical System Services Framework Agreement were that the chosen systems were hosted and could support a wide range of current and future functionality – including electronic referrals, prescribing and test requests, timely discharge summaries and comprehensive information-sharing.
EMIS has a solid user base in Wales and has recently worked with NHS Wales on pioneering national projects, including the Individual Health Record (IHR). This enables emergency and out-of-hours clinicians to securely access key information from patients’ GP-held medical records.
Sean Riddell, Chief Executive of EMIS Group plc, said: “We are delighted that GPs in Wales will now have access to the many benefits of EMIS Web – a future-proof, scalable solution that is perfectly aligned with NHS Wales’ ambitious plans for better health services.”
EMIS teams will be meeting GPs and practice staff at a series of awareness events across Wales, to introduce them to the transformational EMIS Web system and explain its many benefits.
